Ensuring your clients have the physical capacity to achieve desired positions and postures in a variety of lifting patterns in the gym is crucial for continued loading and force production capabilities. In this practical workshop you will learn a variety of ways to mobilise those integral joint structures for improved lifting performance and recovery.
While in isolation and lockdown, improving joint and muscle function should be everyone’s goal. This way when we return to the gym we decrease our risk of injury and are ready to load. Remember when our clients return, no amount of expert cueing will get a client into a position that their body does not have the physical capacity to go. Mobility restrictions cause uneven skeletal loading through compensatory actions and increase chronic load injury risk.
In this jam packed practical session, I will demonstrate and educate on the techniques I use to repair tissue integrity and joint mobility to get my clients loading correctly in the gym and lifting heavier sooner.

Exercise is Medicine: Integrating Health and Fitness in Healthcare Following Covid-19
In the 5th century BC, Hippocrates said that “Eating alone will not keep a man well; he must also take exercise. For food and exercise… work together to produce health.” This relationship has been further defined by years of scientific research that shows a clear correlation between physical activity and health status. That is, those individuals who maintain an active and fit way of life live longer and healthier lives than those who do not. This association between physical activity and health persists in virtually every subgroup of the population, regardless of age, sex, race or environmental condition. The benefits of exercise are overwhelming, and it has been shown that exercise can be used therapeutically for any condition. Healthcare systems must begin to think of physical activity and exercise as a medication that should be prescribed to patients. Healthcare professionals must therefore collectively urge all patients to become more active and stay active throughout their lives. It’s imperative that all patients understand the risks of being sedentary, and the importance of exercise in treating and preventing chronic diseases. Exercise Professionals on the other hand, are uniquely qualified to help people on a journey of lifestyle change, particularly those with specific training and accredited certifications in health coaching. The fitness industry must therefore reinforce standards for well-qualified health and exercise professionals that will solidify trust between the medical and fitness communities, for the benefit of patients and consumers. There should be a merging of the fitness industry with the healthcare industry, so that both patients and clients can be better helped to find an appropriate exercise regimen. The Exercise is Medicine initiative therefore provides an innovative approach that, through a prescription, links the medical profession with physical activity professionals and community resources.

She link between nutrition and mental wellbeing seems intuitive, but the research into how diet actually influences our brain health is only in its’ infancy. In this comprehensive session, nutritionist Kristen Beck (M.Hum.Nutr. B.H.Sc) will explore how the brain and body responds to stress and review the latest science into how both our nutrition and body composition can affect brain health. Topics will include the impact of food processing, refined sugars and grain foods, intense sweeteners, types of fats and proteins as well as the role of gut health in balancing stress hormones and boosting feel-good neurotransmitters.
